CALJE (Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble) is a new and innovative force on the Latin Jazz scene. Continuing the legacy of Latin Jazz big band, CALJE explores Afro-Cuban Jazz, as well as music from all of Latin America and delivers captivating performances of original and genre-bending works with their unique fusion of traditional Cuban rhythms and modern Jazz harmony. Ranging from a size as large as a powerful 15 musicians, to the intimacy of a quartet, their music is diverse and engaging for any audience.
Founded in 2006 by Nicaraguan pianist/composer, Darwin Noguera & Mexican trumpeter/composer Victor Garcia, these long-time musical collaborators envisioned an endeavor Latin music that would follow in the innovative footsteps of the pioneering Cuban groups Chucho Valdes’ Irakere, Mario Bauza & His Afro-Cubans, & the Dizzy Gillespie United Nations Orchestra.
The concert at DUPAC will feature trumpeter Victor Garcia and pianist Darwin Noguera with an intimate ensemble of musicians.
